Cooper McDonald has been at Clark & Elbing since 2001 and a partner beginning in 2012. His work involves patent prosecution and opinion work, including the preparation of patentability, non-infringement, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate opinions. Cooper works with clients to protect innovations related to microfluidics, small molecule and polymer chemistry, diagnostics, and medical devices. He also performs due diligence analyses of patent portfolios.
Cooper’s doctoral research employed a multidisciplinary approach to the design, fabrication, and testing of microfluidic devices. This research bridged the fields of chemistry, materials science, engineering, and biology. Cooper also has experience in spectroscopic, microscopic, and capillary electrophoretic analytical techniques. He has co-authored publications in several journals, including Science, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Accounts of Chemical Research, and Analytical Chemistry.
