Mariah’s work involves the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, primarily in the field of biology. She also assists clients in conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
Mariah’s doctoral research focused on the role of oxytocinergic neurons in regulating social behavior and the associated patterns of neuronal activity in the hippocampus. To this end, she employed viral vector-mediated chemogenetics, optogenetics, gene editing, and anatomical tracing approaches; pharmacology, electrophysiology, immunohistology, transgenic mice, and behavioral phenotyping.
As a postdoctoral scholar at Northwestern University, Mariah studied the neurobiological bases of hippocampal function in mice through the meta-analysis of proteomic, anatomic, and neuroelectric data during hippocampus-dependent behaviors.
Mariah has authored and co-authored original research articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Communications, Translational Psychiatry, Learning and Memory, Brain Structure and Function, and Current Opinion in Neurobiology.
